Alcohol & Tobacco Merchant Education

The Community Partnership Support Center, in collaboration with the Missouri Divisions of Alcohol & Drug Abuse and Alcohol & Tobacco Control, offers trainings designed for anyone who sells tobacco and/or alcohol products, including:

  • Owners*
  • Managers*
  • Clerks
  • Bartenders
  • Security

*Owners and Managers are encouraged to attend with their employees.

The training is provided to educate retailers about preventing the sale of alcohol and tobacco products to minors. If found guilty, consequences for owners may include:

  • no sales for 5 days (tobacco products)
  • a $1,000 fine per sale, suspension of license, or license revocation (alcohol products)
  • additional civil and/or criminal charges

In addition, consequences for whoever made the sale can include:

  • a $250 fine (tobacco products)
  • a $1,000 fine and/or 1 year in jail (alcohol products)
  • additional civil and/or criminal charges

Training topics include:

  • State Alcohol and Tobacco Laws
  • Checking IDs
  • Detecting Fake and False IDs
  • Identifying Minors
  • Compliance Checks

The training is approximately two hours long.
