Methamphetamine Awareness and Prevention

In response to a multitude of problems related to methamphetamine, the Partnership has developed a number of prevention programs. These include:

  • Developed a Drug Endangered Children’s Team, composed of representatives from many agencies. This group completed a medical protocol for use when children are removed from homes where meth is thought to be present. In response to an increasing number of pregnant women who used meth during their pregnancy – endangering both their health and that of their unborn baby – a rack card to educate pregnant women on the dangers of meth use was developed and is used by hospitals and clinics in our region. • As Missouri continues to lead the nation in the number of meth labs, comprehensive training kits were produced for a variety of target audiences. These include childcare and in-home service workers, hotel/motel owners, landlords, elementary youth, and teens. A brochure “There is No Safe Speed” was produced, and is a great educational tool which appeals to both teens and adults. To view this brochure click on www.cafeprevention.com. Specially trained staff regularly provide trainings and consultations and present at state and national conferences on methamphetamine.
  • Knowing that meth labs are dangerous from so many perspectives – the effect on the environment, property values, risks of explosion, and the highly toxic chemicals often left out in the open and easily accessible to children – a door knob hanger was developed to help raise awareness and educate the general public.
