Partners
Community Partnership is all about prevention. The Partnership’s goal with the PIRC project is to promote the importance of social and emotional development in preschool children, so they will be better prepared to transition into the kindergarten classroom. The PIRC project also promotes parents advocating for their children as they continue through their school years. Our staff informs and educates parents, childcare providers, and interested community members on what kids need to succeed academically, socially and emotionally.

The Springfield-Greene County Library District supports the PIRC’s goals by providing resources, programs and professional staff to help parents ensure their children’s academic success.
Storytimes for children from birth to age 6 incorporate an early literacy model designed to help parents understand the important pre-reading skills that provide the foundation all children need before they learn to read in school.
Parent workshops that help caregivers understand and build early literacy skills are offered through libraries in Greene and other counties, Parents as Teachers, Head Start, MOPS and other groups.
Best of all, in support of our goal to make sure every child is ready to read by kindergarten, families attending parent workshops receive free books to build their children’s home libraries. Library staff also provide early literacy trainings for child care providers and the staff of agencies that work with at-risk families.
The Library District’s 10 branches offer families a wide array of books, learning resources and toys to support a habit of lifelong learning.
Visit the Library’s web site at thelibrary.org, or contact us at 417-616-0563 for more information.
Parents as Teachers is the overarching program philosophy of providing parents with child development knowledge and parenting support. Our mission is to provide the information, support, and encouragement that parents need to help their children develop optimally during the crucial early years of life.
Parents as Teachers Core Values
- The early years of a child's life are critical for optimal development and provide the foundation for success in school and in life.
- Parents are their children's first and most influential teachers.
- Established and emerging research should be the foundation of parent education and family support curricula, training, materials and services.
- All young children and their families deserve the same opportunities to succeed, regardless of any demographic, geographic or economic considerations.
