Community Partnership’s Early Childhood Division, along with more than 30 community agencies devoted to children and families, hosts Community Wide Play Day each spring on the last Saturday in April at Fassnight Park in Springfield. The goal of Community Wide Play Day is to provide a positive, interactive, voluntary, FREE opportunity for children and families to interact and learn through play. Each year, the event draws more than 2,000 children and their families.
Children have played at all times throughout history and in all cultures. Play, along with the basic needs of nutrition, health, shelter, and education, is vital to develop the potential in all children. The activities available at Play Day allow children to stretch their muscles and minds while they explore creative expression. Parents also receive inexpensive or free play ideas to do at home, which encourage healthy brain development in growing children. In addition, each child who attends Play Day receives a free book.
New to Community Wide Play Day is a collaboration with the YMCA to provide Healthy Kids Day®. Healthy Kids Day® encourages kids and parents to commit to keeping the body and mind active.
