We recruit and help support the Lunch Buddies mentoring program within many of our schools. The Lunch Buddies program pairs students with a caring adult who eats lunch with them at school one time per week. The goal of the program is to help increase the student’s self-esteem and to foster a caring, nurturing relationship with their adult “buddy”.
Our Girltalk and Hangtime mentoring groups are targeted toward upper elementary and middle school students. Girltalk is a peer-to-peer mentoring program for 4th through 8th grade girls that discusses topics such as bullying, self-esteem, body image and leadership. Hangtime is a group mentoring club that connects college student volunteers with male middle school students to discuss topics like hygiene, healthy relationship and study skills.
We also support educational tutoring programs within our schools by recruiting and connecting volunteers to available opportunities. We help promote mentoring programs offered by the Boy Scouts, the Girl Scouts, the YMCA, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
